If
there is an Achilles heel in the bathtub refinishing industry it would
be NOT replacing of the drain during the refinishing process. Notice
when you turn on the water in your bathtub the spout directs the water
directly at the drain. Of course you have hot and cold water impacting
this vital area. Hot and cold water causes thermal shock and over time
the expansion and constriction also known as thermal shock will
eventually cause a slight curling or swelling in this area no
matter how well the product is applied or what system a refinisher is
using the bathtub refinishing will only last 3 to 7 years. This is why
we offer a 10 Year warranty if you allow us to perform the ultimate
refinishing job.

If you choose not to pull the drain we
will be forced to mask around it. No matter how perfect our razor
masking is there will always be a slight lip when the tape is pulled
after the refinishing and the useful life of the refinishing process
will be shortened. However when we pull the drain and are
able to get the glaze beneath and all the way under the drain area
then re-install a new one two important things are accomplished. The
first is a perfect seal established with the glaze applied just like
the original manufacturing which again runs underneath the drain. The
second is aesthetics. It will look great. Think about for a moment.
The bathtub was not manufactured with a drain in it right? Well as
professional refinishers with many years experience we realize this
and it is our duty to inform you of tiny details that can make the
difference between a mediocre refinishing job or a great one to be
admired for many years.
